Soil

Using U.S. Composting Council methods, the following results are provided: pH; electrical conductivity; bulk density; percent solids and moisture content; organic matter; total nitrogen; organic nitrogen; nitrate and ammonium nitrogen; total carbon; carbon to nitrogen ratio; total phosphorus, potassium, calcium and magnesium.  Results reported on a dry weight basis, a moist weight basis, and a moist volume basis (where applicable).

A determination of the end of season stalk nitrate concentration for field corn. The test is a reliable end-of-season indicator of crop N status.

Note: Plant tissue tests offered by the UMass Soil and Plant Tissue Laboratory provide nutrient analysis only.  They do not diagnose problems caused by insects, disease or other environmental factors. Metals


Total Sorbed Metals Test............................................................................$ 45.00

This test determines the total sorbed levels of lead, nickel, cadmium and chromium in soils, compost, or plant tissue using the EPA methods 3050B and 6010.  Additional metals, arsenic, selenium, and molybdenum may be added to Total Sorbed Metals test for $5.00 per element.

 

Research


Research orders are processed as time permits.  Orders with a large number of samples should be submitted during our slow period (December through February). Contact the lab before submitting research samples for analysis.  Other tests may be available upon consultation and prior arrangement with the soil testing lab.
